Visual Arts
At Van Dellen, we study many artists, discussing and imitating their works. The elements of design (line, shape, form, color, value, texture, and space) are introduced using different materials and projects. The principle of design (balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern, and unity) are introduced, discussed and encouraged. Art from different cultures is also introduced, studied, and imitated.
The K-5th grade students choose one of their art projects to be displayed at the spring art show. The 6th-8th grade students choose one or more art pieces to show. These art peices are judged by an outside artist, awarding an Honorable Mention or Special Merit ribbon.
