What is happening with ReNew?
When can I drop off donations?
What will ReNew’s hours be?
When will you need volunteers?
When will ReNew be open?
What do you need?
This is just a sample of the questions that frequently hit our inboxes so it’s time for an update!

Many people have been hard at work over the summer to prepare and plan for ReNew’s grand opening. A Board of Directors has been established to guide the implementation of ReNew and to provide governance going forward. Working with Mikaila Grafft, ReNew Manager, the Board has a comprehensive implementation plan and is meeting frequently to assess progress. This includes a detailed plan for modifying the interior of the building to best suit the needs of ReNew (painting, modifying the flooring, finalizing signage, wiring for a security system and sound system, etc.). It also includes things like hooking up the phone and utilities, pricing fixtures and point of sale systems, building a website and signing up volunteers.
So why does it seem to be taking so long? In order to begin receiving donations, the interior of the store needs to be ready to go. Painting, fixing the floor and making other necessary changes requires that the building be empty. Most importantly, we must have possession of the space. Originally, we expected that this would happen in late July when the zoning change was implemented. That has been delayed somewhat and we now anticipate taking possession by August 13. Once this happens, we expect that it will be 4-5 weeks until we can receive donations at the store.
As for hours of operation, the goal is to be open every day except Sunday and to also be open one evening a week. We will only be able to do this if we have enough committed volunteers to regularly staff the store. We are looking for pick-up and delivery drivers, cashiers, day managers, sorters, taggers, fixers, department managers and more. We will be providing additional information and signing up volunteers at the Parent Information Nights on each campus (August 19 – HS, August 24 – HR, August 26 – VD). In addition, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 31 to attend an open house for all interested volunteers at the store! More details to follow soon.
We are in need of many things to support the operation of the store. We are currently shopping for many of these items, however, if we can secure as many as possible on a donation or low-cost basis, that will help us to keep our start-up costs as low as possible. Below is a list of items that we are currently looking for. Please email Mikaila Grafft mikaila@renewresale.org if you have any of these items (or if you know a resource) and would be willing to provide them to ReNew.
- break room items: table and chairs (6-8); small microwave; refrigerator
- small safe
- large dry erase board
- clear storage containers (standard size: approx 66 quarts)
- sound system
- shopping carts or baskets
- printer/copier/fax (all in one would be great!)
- computers (3-4)
- credit card processors (3-4)
- cash registers (3-4 all same)
The Board is also looking for worthy organizations to which ReNew can donate any overstock or any unsalable but useful items. It is our hope that ReNew can have a positive impact on other organizations that serve the Denver metro community or even communities outside Denver. If you have any suggestions, please forward them to Mikaila Grafft (mikailasue@yahoo.com).
We continue to covet your prayers and your patience. Be watching for further details and updates in the coming days and weeks.
To God be the glory!
